Jerry Maren
January 24, 1920 – May 24, 2018
Gerard Marenghi, aka Jerry Maren, was an actor who was notable as the last surviving adult munchkin from the 1939 MGM classic film, The Wizard of Oz. Maren appeared as a member of the memorable “Lollipop Guild” during Dorothy’s introduction to the land of Oz. At the time of his death at the age of 98, he was also the last surviving actor with a speaking part in the movie.

Despite all the pop culture notoriety, Maren was not quagmired. He forged a fairly successful career that saw him appearing with the Marx Brothers, on shows like Bewitched and Get Smart and even more contemporary appearances like The Twilight Zone and Seinfeld. He also helped organize Little People of America – an advocacy group – with friend, Billy Barty. In 2007, Maren appeared alongside fellow Oz costars such as Mickey Carroll and Margaret Pellegrini at the unveiling of the “Wizard of Oz Munchkins” star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Court of Remembrance, Sanctuary of Enduring Protection; At the eastern end of the main walkway in the Court of Remembrance, to the right of the statue of Jesus, Jerry is buried on the left inside the Sanctuary of Enduring Protection, three tiers in, bottom row, just 2 rows directly beneath Sandra Dee.
